Dana White made a key announcement for the UFC’s next scheduled card in London at the UFC Fight Night 30 post-fight press conference, revealing that the main event looks set to be Alexander Gustafsson vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, ‘Little Nog’.
Gustafsson, who was at the press conference, spoke very highly of his opponent, stating it was a very tough test for him on March 8th, 2013.
He comes in off a very close decision loss to Jon Jones for the UFC light-heavyweight title in a bout that made him an instant star. Prior to that, Gustafsson had a six-fight win streak in the UFC, including victories over Mauricio Rua and Thiago Silva.
Nogueira hasn’t fought since February, but he defeated Rashad Evans back then, and toppled Tito Ortiz in his fight prior to that. Although not as active as the young Swede, he is considered a legend in the sport.
Dana White also confirmed that victory would put Alex as the number-one contender, stating there would definitely be a rematch if both he and Jones won their next bouts.
With the UFC’s European Fight Night tour, many thought Alex would feature in Sweden, but Garry Cook stated that there is plenty of talent to stack a card there, and him not featuring in Malmo wouldn’t be an issue.
As it stands, UK UFC fans get a potentially great five-rounder to possibly determine a title-contender at 205lbs.
It was take place at Wembley Arena.
