Dan Hardy vs. Amir Sadollah Set For UFC Nottingham

Nottingham’s most famous MMA fighter will return to his hometown, meeting Sadollah at UFC On Fuel 5.

Author: Jay Furness

Nottingham native Dan Hardy (24-10) will return to action in September following his explosive win over Duane “Bang” Ludwig last time out.

Hardy, much in need of the win following four consecutive losses, used his patented left hook to dispatch fellow striker Ludwig in the first round. Now he looks to return closer to home and will be a big draw in his hometown.

MMA Fighting first stated that he will meet Amir Sadollah (6-3) in a bout which many were predicting before the news broke, and now have received confirmation of the bout.

Sadollah, primarily a striker himself, comes in off a decision win over Jorge Lopez. The TUF winner was successful at UFC On Fuel 3, and will have a big task ahead of him against the hard-hitting Brit, especially when he’s backed by a fervent UK crowd.

Since winning The Ultimate Fighter Sadollah has had nine professional fights, with five of his six wins coming via decision.

This adds to the growing main card which will be headlined by Stefan Struve vs. Stipe Miocic.

The UFC On Fuel 5 fight card on September 29th so far looks like this:
Stipe Miocic vs. Stefan Struve
Dan Hardy vs. Amir Sadollah
Brad Pickett vs. Yves Jabouin
Paul Sass vs. Matt Wiman
Che Mills vs. Duane Ludwig
Andy Ogle vs. Akira Corassani

Cyborg Out Of Strikeforce Bout With Daley On July 30th

Evangelista ‘Cyborg’ Santos will not be able to fight against Paul Daley and a replacement is being sought.

Author: Jay Furness

The highly anticipated welterweight clash between Paul “Semtex” Daley and Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos will no longer go ahead on the July 30th Strikeforce card, with the Brazilian being forced to withdraw due to a shoulder injury.

Although the possibility that the bout may be scratched came to light late last night via from a source in the Santos camp, were able to confirm with Daley’s people this morning that it was indeed official. Strikeforce are said to be looking for a replacement for Daley with five weeks until fight time.

The striker vs. striker battle of “Cyborg” and “Semtex” was hot on the lips of many MMA fans, with neither man known for taking a backwards step and both having a string of stoppage wins on their resume due to the concussive power in their hands and feet.

Although Daley lost his last bout in an entertaining one-round affair with Nick Diaz for the Strikeforce title, he had just one defeat in his last nine prior to that – that loss coming via decision to Josh Koscheck. Seven of those wins came via strikes, so it’s easy to see why people still want to see the Daley name on the bill as you’re almost guaranteed that someone is going to hit the canvas.

Up-and-coming wrestler Tyron Woodley is being name-checked by fans as the replacement they’d like to see, but with the relatively short notice it’s unclear as of yet who will step in to take on the challenge. Woodley’s unblemished 8-0 record — with six wins under the Strikeforce banner — means that he is in a prime spot should he want the opportunity.

Pearson out of UFC London, Michael Johnson set as Replacement

An injury sees Ross Pearson sidelined for UFC Fight Night 37, with Melvin Guillard now facing Michael Johnson.

Author: @YourMMA

Ross Pearson and Melvin Guillard were due to rematch following their disappointing No Contest in Manchester back in October. However, plans for the second encounter have been cancelled following an injury to ‘The Real Deal’, forcing him out of the contest.

UFC officials stated that a knee injury has sidelined Pearson from UFC Fight Night 37 in his native England, but a replacement has been found. It’s not clear as yet how severe Pearson’s injury is.

Despite the initial disappointment, fans may be pleased that Michael Johnsonhas been drafted in for the London show as an opponent for Guillard. Stylistically it still looks like an exciting matchup on paper.

TUF finalist Johnson has picked up some real momentum of late, scoring back-to-back victories over Joe Lauzon and Gleison Tibau in the latter part of 2013 to see out the year.

Of his six UFC victories he has won three by knockout, and not much more needs to be said about Guillard’s finishing ratio. Both men will be looking for an emphatic victory to cement themselves amongst the upper echelon of the UFC lightweight division.

The pair are former training partners at the Blackzilians camp, adding an intriguing extra dimension to the matchup.

The card is topped by the light-heavyweight bout between Alexander Gustafsson and Jimi Manuwa, and a strong supporting undercard is in place. Check out the card HERE.

Pickett vs. Easton: UFC Stockholm

More bouts are coming through for UFC Stockholm 2013, with the UK’s Brad Pickett taking on Mike Easton in April.

Author: @YourMMA

UFC Stockholm 2013: Gustafsson vs. Mousasi is shaping up to be a high-level night of fights, with tremendous matchups already coming through.

Another has been added to the mix, with top UK bantamweight Brad ‘One Punch’ Pickett set to take on American Mike Easton. Both fighters have verbally agreed to the matchup at this stage.

Pickett (22-7) has been one of the UFC’s most consistently exciting performers since moving over from the WEC in 2011. Although his 2-2 record in that time may not look the most impressive on paper, he has finished two high-level opponents and lost in entertaining battles with Eddie Wineland and interim champion Renan Barao.

Pickett has picked up fight night bonuses in three out of four of these UFC outings, and also went three from four in the WEC, with wins over Ivan Menjivar, and current UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson.

After suffering a split decision loss last time out, he’ll be hoping to get back on the winning track. However, Easton (13-2) is a very tough adversary, with good wrestling and a BJJ black belt.

Easton also dropped his last bout via decision to Raphael Assuncao, but prior to that he had three straight victories in the UFC.

With the tempo both of these guys can push, it serves as an earlt FOTN contender for the card in Stockholm, Sweden on April 6th.

Stay tuned to for more details.
